Shhhhh you’re invited to an exclusive secret surprise party on July 1 @ 2:00 am details to come later; was the entire text message I received on my personal cell phone from an unknown caller. Not giving too much thought to the message I continued my week as normal taking my boys back and forth from all of their extracurricular activities. By the time Friday came I was in need an escape from the routine.
“Yes this is Sydney” as I answered my cell knowing that my ex hates for me to asked as if I don’t know it is him.
“Syd this is Rick I know you are upset that I haven’t been doing my part with the boys but I was hoping that I could pick them up from school and keep them for the weekend. And before you tell me no I miss you and the boys and sometimes I am just a jerk and blah blah blah.” He began to wined and like I do with my 8 and 9 year old children I began to tune my ex out completely.
“Rick that would be fine for you to have them for the weekend just make sure that you pick them up on time from school and that you take them to the track meet on Saturday on time.” Thanking God for sending me this break I quickly hang up the phone and realized that it was quitting time. Taking advantage of the opportunity for some me time, I quickly assemble my girls and put them on happy hour notice.
By 8:00pm my girls and I are deck out ready to take Houston by storm. We meet at Pappadeaux’s restaurant where the up and coming single gather to network and mingle before the real battle of the sexes begins, the restaurant is almost as crowed as a small club. It has been so long since I had been out I had almost forgotten why I stopped going the in the first place. All the fake want to be ballers and baby dream snatchers surrounding the bar fronting like they are all that when they know damn well they still live at home with their mama. (Anyway I digress) So my girls and I go ahead and get a booth close to the door where we have the best view of all the excitement. After a few frozen cosmos we are laughing and having such a good time we did not even recognized the time. Before we knew it, it was already 11:00 pm and the restaurant was closing and even though I was ready to go out and make a night of it most of my friends were married and had a curfew. So I said good night to them and decided to go on have a good time by my damn self. “I’m a BIG GIRL” I say to myself getting up enough courage to go to small jazz club downtown.
Arriving to the club to see that nothing was jumping off I decide to go on home and maybe I can catch one of my favorite episodes of Law and Order. I am almost home when my cell phones goes off. It frightens me because I am not expecting anyone to be calling me this late. I grab the phone to see that is a new text message.

The secret location.
Wondering what it could be? I open it and the message read: Surprise Party starts in 1 hour location 3545 Secret Trail password Rain. WHAT THE HELL? Thinking to myself who could this be I know all of my friends birthdays and I haven’t missed one yet. Contemplating whether or not to go and see I think to myself what the hell I have nothing else to do.
